ITANAGAR, Dec 31: An assistant engineer of the PWD, Kholie Tath (56), was killed by a gaon burah in the Panjuly forest area near Chessa-I village in Papum Pare district on Sunday.
Sources in the police informed that the incident occurred at around 4.30 in the evening, when the GB, identified as Nangbia Niku (48), accidentally shot Tath with a single barrel gun.
The police have arrested Niku, and his gun has been seized. A murder case has been registered against him at the Banderdewa police station.
The accused told the police that he shot Tarh unintentionally, having mistaken him for a wild boar.
Meanwhile, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) on Monday deeply condoled Tath’s untimely demise.
Tath had joined the PWD as a junior engineer in 1991, and had been promoted to the post of AE in 2013. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Tath had also served the NES as its secretary in charge of Papum Pare district for three tenures, from 2007 to 2016.
“His unnatural death is an irreparable loss to the Nyishi community in particular and the state as a whole,” the NES stated in its condolence message. It prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul, and for strength and solace to the bereaved family.
The Arunachal Pradesh Junior Engineer’s Welfare Association (APJEWA) and the Arunachal Pradesh Engineering Service Association also mourned Tath’s untimely demise. Tath had served as vice president of the APJEWA from 2000 to 2001.
Members of the APJEWA visited the bereaved family and expressed their condolences and solidarity with the family members in their hour of grief.
