Karatekas pocket 9 medals in National School Games

Wushu team leaves for Delhi

ITANAGAR, Dec 31: After the pugilists brought two medals, the karatekas from Arunachal Pradesh pocketed nine medals, including a gold and a silver, in the 64th National School Games (Karate) for boys and girls under 14 and under-17 years categories, which concluded at Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
Deepok Jomoh of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) bagged the yellow metal in the boys’ U-14 Kumite (fight) in the below 45 kg bodyweight category.
The silver was won by Kina Sipa of Eklavya Public School, Jully, in the girls’ below 14 years Kumite in the 50 kg plus bodyweight category.
Awaiso Walang of SLSA bagged a bronze medal in Kumite in the boys’ U-14 year and below 50 kg bodyweight category.
Zintu Eyum of SLSA, Tar Gomb of Naharlagun Model Village GHSS, Mingmo Dolo of Naharlagun G Sector GSS, Tai Tania of SLSA, Anand Cheri of Naharlagun G Sector GSS and Laishram Shyamkumar Singh of Itanagar GHSS won a bronze medal each in the boys’ Kumite in their respective bodyweight categories, informed chef de mission Tatung Raju.
Prakash Limbu and Biri Moni were the boys’ and girls’ coach, respectively.
Meanwhile, nine Wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh, accompanied by two officials, left here for New Delhi on Monday to participate in the 64th National School Games Wushu for boys’ under 17 and under 19 year category, which will be held from 3 to 9 December.
Prior to the departure of the team, Secondary Education Director Gania Leij briefed the players about the Games’ details and its importance. He advised them to concentrate and play up to their potential.
M Premchandra Singh and Techi Juna are the chief de mission and the team manager, respectively.
The team: (U-17) Latwang Kamhua, Chou Sumitha Longkan, Joshi Nipu, Ajit Tok, Kigo Yoka and Buku Goi; (U-19) Monday Sonam, Tamchi Nanung, Aphun Toloham (all from SLSA).
