All India Police Commando Competition underway

DIPHU (Assam), Jan 2: The 9th All India Police Commando Competition, organized under the aegis of the Assam Rifles began here in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Wednesday.
The aim of the competition is to enhance the physical and mental robustness, shooting skills, test leadership qualities under stressful conditions and foster team spirit amongst the participants, according to a release from Kohima based Defence PRO Col C Konwer.
Eight teams from the Central Armed Police Forces and 14 teams from various state police forces are participating in the event.
The competition includes small team operation (Jungle), small team operation (Urban), battle obstacle course, firing and various physical proficiency tests with battle loads.
Governor of Meghalaya Tathagata Roy, who attended the inaugural ceremony, appreciated the efforts made by the Assam Rifles in conducting the competition. The governor proclaimed that the Assam Rifles is a force that has lived up to its credo of being ‘Friends of the North East’.
Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan exhorted all the competitors to put in their best and contribute towards building a strong, effective and professional police force in the country. He also spoke about the resilience and dynamism of the Assam Rifles in contributing immensely towards the peace and development of the North East region.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the closing ceremony of the competition on 9 January, the release said.
