NSS special camp organised

TUMRU, Feb 10: A weeklong special camp themed ‘Community engagement and sustainability’ organized by the NSS cell of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) concluded on 7 February at Tumru village in Papum Pare district.
The camp was aimed at exposing the NSS volunteers to rurality and making them understand rural issues by engaging them in various activities.
Thirty NSS volunteers along with programme coordinator Dr Vivek Singh and programme officers Gomar Basar, Bhaskar Jyoti Chutia and John Gangmei conducted yoga sessions and awareness programmes on various issues.
The volunteers also undertook a study of the village by applying participatory rural appraisal methods.
At the request of gaon burah (GB) Nangbia Neme, the NSS volunteers levelled the ground and fenced the compound of the primary school here, and conducted an interactive session with the students and their parents on education, health and hygiene.
RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha also attended the programme, and spoke on the importance of good health and quality education. He assured to provide assistance to villagers in availing free basic medical treatment at the RGU health centre, and presented two fire extinguishers to the GB and the school’s headmaster.
