5 FPS’ licences cancelled for malpractice

KOLORIANG, Feb 15: Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Santosh Kumar Rai has cancelled the licences of five fair price shops (FPS) here for selling AAY and PHH rice at Rs 14 per kg for many years, although the actual cost is Rs 3 per kg for the beneficiaries.
“Such steps will bring transparency and ensure timely distribution of ration to the beneficiaries at the prescribed rate,” the DC stated in a release.
The administration has temporarily set up a one-stop selling centre here, which will operate under the DC’s direct supervision.
“The practice of ensuring selling rice at Rs 3 per kg shall be replicated at all the circle headquarters of the district,” the DC said.
Meanwhile, a team from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), including its general manager, held a meeting with the DC and visited the plot allotted here by the administration to set up an FCI depot.
