ITANAGAR, Mar 25: On the last day of filing of nominations, chaos prevailed in the Congress party over the names of its candidates.
For three assembly constituencies – Doimukh, Pongchau-Wakka and Changlang North – the candidates’ lists released by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) differed.
On the list released by the AICC, Nabam Vivek was nominated for the Doimukh seat, Marina Kenglang for Changlang North, and Chinsang Wangham for Pongchau-Wakka.
However, on the list issued by the APCC, the candidates were replaced by Nabam Rana (Doimukh), Thinghaap Taiju (Changlang North) and Thangkai Khusumchai (Pongchau-Wakka).
The confusion surrounding the names of the candidates has angered some of the candidates and their supporters.
Kenglang, vice president of the Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress and one of the aspiring candidates, expressed serious disappointment.
“Though my name was on the list issued by the AICC, APCC president Takam Sanjoy did not give the ticket to me. I started preparing to fight the election after seeing my name on the list. But surprisingly, the party refused to issue Forms A and B to me, and later it was given to Thinghaap Taiju. This is really unfortunate, and I would like to ask the APCC president to clarify the reason behind such a move,” she said.
“I believe in the ideology of the Congress party and have been a grassroots worker for the last many years. Most of the members of the Pradesh Election Committee supported me for the party ticket. Something was seriously wrong with the whole process. I appeal to AICC president Rahul Gandhi to look into the ticket distribution issue in the state and take strict action against those involved in anti-party activities,” Kenglang added.
