JD(U) candidate challenges rejection of candidature

ITANAGAR, Mar 28: Janata Dal (United) candidate for the Yachuli legislative assembly seat, Toko Yaram, has filed a complaint with the state’s election commission over the rejection of her candidature.
Her counsel, Tar Torum, informed that her candidature’s scrutiny had been adjourned for 27 March after the returning officer (RO) had found anomalies in the no-objection certificate from the power department. However, Yaram’s candidature was rejected during a hearing on the matter.
The counsel said they opposed the rejection of her nomination paper under subject Clause 6.9.1 of the ERO book as it has “insufficient substantial character to disqualify or reject her nomination as per ERP book as the ERO/RO can only reject the nomination paper under Article 84, 102, 173 and 191 of the constitution of India and Part III of Part II of the RP Act, 1951.”
Accordingly, the counsel said, Yaram on Thursday sought a review of the rejection passed by the RO on 27 March.
