DAPORIJO, Apr 12: Incidents of poll-related violence have been reported from various remote polling stations in Upper Subansiri district.
Two polling officials manning the Nasi polling station under the Dumporijo constituency were seriously injured when some miscreants pelted stones at them, compelling the authority to cancel the polling midway at the station on Thursday.
Both the injured officials were evacuated to Daporijo for treatment. A case has been registered against the miscreant(s) at the Dumporijo police station.
In another incident, one person was injured when supporters of two rival political parties, reportedly the BJP and the JD(U), engaged in a clash at the Jeke polling station under the Daporijo constituency. An FIR has been lodged at the police station here in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, the police here said additional security personnel have been sent to the Rigia polling station under Taliha constituency to bring back the EVMs and other polling materials under safe custody.
The step has been taken following reports that the polling officials there were facing obstruction in bringing back the polling materials to the strong-room at the district headquarters here.
There is no motorable road to Rigia.
No poll-related incident was reported from the Nacho constituency till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, the EVMs from remote polling stations are yet to arrive here.
The district authority said necessary security arrangements have been made at the sensitive and remote polling stations to ensure the safety of the EVMs and other polling materials.
With no road connectivity, piggyback is the only mode of transportation of polling materials to distant places like Marging, Markia, Rikung and Guha, which involves high risk.
