Teachers demand action against attackers

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: The Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA) in a representation to the chief electoral officer here on Monday urged him to direct the authorities to initiate strict action against those involved in the brutal attack on Malo Rilo, the district project coordinator (ISSE) under the Upper Subansiri DDSE, who had been appointed as presiding officer at the Koba polling station under the Nacho assembly constituency.
The association also demanded granting of immediate financial assistance to the injured officer who is presently undergoing treatment at Heema Hospital here.
The ATA claimed that the attack had been preplanned by some goons of an MLA candidate in order to have re-polling ordered at the polling station.
“The polling process was conducted and completed peacefully. After the completion of polling and the sealing of EVM, the polling team was preparing the papers and other necessary documents which were to be submitted along with the EVM, when around 5:30 pm some people arrived and started assaulting the presiding officer and brutally assaulted him,” it said.
The ATA said its members would defy election-related duties if their demands are not met within a stipulated time.
