DOIMUKH, May 3: The government college here in Papum Pare district on Friday organised a ‘career counselling-cum-farewell day celebration’ programme in the college premises.
The programme was aimed at enumerating the career opportunities available after completing graduation, and also to bid farewell to the outgoing fourth semester students.
Attending the programme Rajiv Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Khushwaha advised the students to be humble and honest, and to “build a good personality and always seek guidance from parents, teachers and good friends.”
The VC also advised them to earn additional certificates, apart from the regular BA certificates.
Higher & Technical Education Director Dr Tayek Talom in his address called upon the students to seek jobs outside the state and shed off apprehensions relating to safety in taking up jobs outside their comfort zone.
“No job is big or small, and everyone must work with dedication, irrespective of obstacles and impediments that will come in one’s journey of building a career,” he said.
The college’s principal, Dr MQ Khan, told the students about the significance of having career counselling and placement cells in academic institutions. He advised them to set goals, and to “make strategies and link them with their careers.”
Earlier, the college’s career counselling and placement cell coordinator, Dr DK Jha, informed the students about the rapid shrinking of government jobs, and the opportunities that are available in the private sector.
