ABK conducts plantation drive in collaboration with forest dept

PASIGHAT, Jul 5: As part of the Vanmahotsav celebrations, a mass plantation programme was organized here on Friday by the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) in collaboration with the forest department at Daying Ering Higher Secondary School. On the occasion hundreds of saplings were planted with the theme “Festival of Trees Festival of Life”.
While attending the plantation drive, additional deputy commissioner (headquarter) Tatdo Borang said Vanmahotsava is celebrated as a festival of the forest and in India it was started as a crusade to save the mother earth. He highlighted the role of society in maintaining ecological balance and the need for creating awareness among masses in this regard. He lauded the ABK and forest department for taking up plantations.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) T Mize while giving “each one should plant one” mantra hoped that every citizen will participate enthusiastically in such initiative. Advocating the preservation of forest wealth, the ABK Secretary General Okom Yosung said such celebration spreads awareness amongst the people about the harm caused by the cutting of the trees. ABK General Secretary (East Siang) Talut Siram also spoke on the occasion. The members of ABK (YW & WW), BBK, AdiSU, NYK, PHED and host of officers and leaders participated in the plantation programme.
