ITANAGAR, Jul 17: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has appealed to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Ltd authorities to reconsider its decision to shift its coordinator office from Itanagar to Pare HE Plant in Doimukh, which it said will be subsequently closed down in the later stages.
It also demanded upgrading the said coordinator office to a regional office headed by an officer not below the rank of executive director.
In a letter to the chairman-cum-managing director of NEEPCO Ltd in Shillong, Meghalaya on Wednesday, the AAPSU has urged the authorities to “not overlook the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh since a considerable amount of power projects and interests of the power developer are situated in the state.”
“Although we do not interfere in the workings and official correspondence of any organization, this sudden decision of your organization (NEEPCO Ltd) cannot be overlooked as it is an attempt to divest the state of what is due to it. The NEEPCO Ltd has commissioned power projects in the state like Ranganadi HE Project (405 MW), Pare HE Project (110 MW) and very soon the Kameng HE Project (600 MW) will also be dedicated to the nation. Also, multiple MoU by NEEPCO Ltd have also been signed with the state government for new projects. The present coordinator office at Itanagar is bound to play a significant role in days to come. This sudden decision of shifting the office instead of upgrading it does not augur well for our state,” the AAPSU stated.
The students’ union further said that it will be compelled to take its own course of action in case of non-fulfilment of the concerns put forth.
