Dist level inter-club badminton tourney held

SEIJOSA, Aug 5: Sixty shuttlers participated in the first ever Pakke-Kessang district level inter-club ranking badminton tournament, which was held here from 2-4 August.
The tournament was organised by the Pakke-Kessang District Badminton Association (PKDBA) under the aegis the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA).
Local MLA Biyuram Wahge gave away the prizes to the winners and the runners-up during the valedictory function. The MLA commended the organiser, and stressed the importance of games and sports in remaining physically fit.
“(Sports) help one stay away from negativity, especially for the youths,” Wahge said, and gave assurance that he would look into the memorandum submitted by the PKDBA for development of sports infrastructure in the district.
The tournament had been inaugurated by Pakke-Kessang DC Tamuna Messar, who advised the participants to “understand the importance and health benefits of the game,” while PKDBA president SC Tok spoke about the “importance and scope of badminton that can be pursued as a career.”
Tok also expressed appreciation for the association’s attempt to popularize badminton in the district.
The tournament was conducted by national umpire (Grade II) Mode Nilling, and state umpire Manilal Sing, both from the ASBA.
Besides Seijosa ADC TR Tapu, who was the chairman of the organising committee, HoDs, former panchayat leaders, and others witnessed the tournament.
