ROING, Aug 20: The Childline unit here in Lower Dibang Valley district conducted an awareness campaign covering various government schools of the district in order to generate awareness about the services provided by the Childline, and about the rights of children.
The programmes were conducted at the government higher secondary school in Bolung, and the middle schools in Ezengo and Mayu on 19 and 20 August.
The Childline team informed the teachers and students that the Childline works for the protection of the rights of children, especially those in need of care and protection, such as victims of child labour, missing children, abused children, and abandoned children.
The team also acquainted the students with the UNCRC and the four rights under the UNCRC – right to survival, right to development, right to protection, and right to participation.
Various other aspects related to children, such as good touch and bad touch, were also covered during the awareness campaign.
The team informed the students about the 24×7 toll-free telephone number, 1098, and the local landline number, 03803-223027, to reach out to by children in need of care and protection.
The team also shared some recent case studies, and distributed pamphlets among the students.
