ITANAGAR, Sep 9: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) is all set to organize its 12th general conference-cum-election by the end of October at Wessang, in East Kameng district.
Addressing media persons at the press club here on Monday, NES president Bengia Tolum said the election and conference will be held from 27-30 October.
He informed that some of the topics of discussion would be tackling the drug menace, “money culture during elections,” and how to continue and bring ideas to make the NES’ school adoption programme successful in the Nyishi-inhabited districts.
Tolum also clarified on comments on various social media regarding the NES’ adoption of only secondary schools. The NES has initiated the move of adoption of schools to encourage and motivate others, he said.
“Despite having proper facilities with highly educated teachers, every year the worst performance by the students in the CBSE exams is from our Nyishi-inhabited districts,” he said, adding that the adoption programme is aimed at creating a sense of responsibility among the teaching staffs to bring about good performance.
He said the NES would initiate such programmes for the betterment of education from the primary level upwards, and in the meantime requested other Nyishi organizations and leaders also to shoulder their roles in the movement.
On the sideline, speaking on the Potin-Pangin TAH compensation scam, Tolum said no action has been taken till today against the people involved, traced by the final fact-finding committee.
According to the latest media release by the Lower Subansiri district administration, 346 people were found having been paid excess money.
“Why has the administration head only shown the excess bills but not of those who procured fake land compensation?” he questioned.
“There are many more people whose names did not appear in the release. Even if those 346 people were provided excess bills, why are the DA and the state government ineffectual in taking legal action against those officers and officials?” he asked.
Tolum said he will be filing a defamation case against the Lower Subansiri DC in the high court very soon.
“Strict action should be taken against those involved in corruption and the officials involved in encouraging such practice in the state,” he added.
Tolum meanwhile requested the state government and the authority concerned to start construction of the airport in Hollongi at the earliest, so that the state’s people have the benefit of air service.
