Training on goat farming imparted

NAMSAI, Sep 12: Over 100 farmers took part in a training programme on ‘scientific goat farming and vermicompost production technology’ organised by the Namsai KVK here and in Alubari village on Thursday.
The programme was also aimed at creating awareness on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan among the farmers.
Addressing the farmers, Namsai KVK Head (in-charge) Dr BKD Borah highlighted the importance of goat rearing by adopting scientific technology to enhance their productivity.
He explained the ongoing NABARD-funded projects, such as ‘nutritional security and livelihood improvement through scientific goat farming’, and advised the farmers to breed their estrus females with improved variety bucks like Sirohi, Jakrana, etc, that are available at the KVK farm here, to produce improved cross-bred kids.
Agrometeorology specialist Bidyapati Ngangom spoke on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and explained how farmers can conserve and use water during scanty rainfall or when the groundwater is low.
She also spoke on different agronomic practices, such as mulching and residue retention, that can be adopted in crop cultivation to conserve soil moisture.
