NSCN insurgents nabbed in Longding

LONGDING/CHANGLANG, Sep 14: Two insurgents, identified as self-styled (SS) major Talai Wangsu and SS corporal Alau Wangnaw of the NSCN (K-YA) were arrested from Longkhao in Longding district during a surgical operation conducted by the security forces on 13 September.
“The apprehended SS major has been the in-charge of illegal tax collection and extortion in Tangsa-Wancho region of Longding and parts of Tirap district and has been on the radar of the security forces for over the past 12 months,” Kohima-based defence PRO Lt Col Sumit Sharma said in a press release.
Wangsu was also a close aide of SS Col Botai Wangsu of the NSCN (K-YA), it said, adding that weapons and a large quantity of ammunitions were recovered from the duo.
Changlang DIPRO adds: A self-styled sergeant major of the NSCN (R), identified as Hanglat Pangtha (27), was arrested from Jongji Havi village in Changlang district during a joint operation carried out by the police and the 9th Assam Rifles on Saturday.
Pangtha is a native of Jongji Havi.
The operation was launched after the Changlang SP received information from credible sources that NSCN (R) operatives were demanding money from the residents of Jangji Havi and surrounding villages.
A case (No 01/2019 u/s 484/511 IPC) has been registered in this regard at the police station here.
