NAHARLAGUN, Sep 28: India feels proud of the Northeast region for always maintaining its top position in national and international sports events, Karate Association of India (KAI) general secretary Ambedkar Gupta said here on Saturday.
“India’s discipline-oriented karate culture is globally known,” he said in his address to the newly-elected North East Karate Federation of India (NEKFI) office bearers, led by its president C Dosavunga and general secretary Bullang Marik, and exhorted them to maintain the region’s position.
“‘United we stand, divided we fall’ should be the moving spirit of all office bearers,” said KAI president Likha Tara.
He cited the example of sports icon Hima Das, who won global laurels to make the NE’s presence felt across the world. Tara urged one and all to develop a positive attitude towards karate.
“I have served as NEKFI president to contribute in whatever way possible,” he said, adding that unanimity alone could help karate rise to its pinnacle.
Arunachal Olympic Association secretary-general Abraham K Techi said the NEKFI aims at helping to strengthen karate in the Northeast.
“Manipur has immensely contributed to the growth of sports in Arunachal,” he said, citing technical director S Deban Sharma of Manipur as an example for devoting over 35 years to promoting karate.
“The KAI is lucky to have a karate pioneer, Tara, as its chief,” he said, adding that he hoped to see many more NE karatekas on national and global podiums.
