SEPPA, Sep 29: The East Kameng district administration and the enforcement squad of the district tobacco control cell (DTCC) on Sunday seized a large quantity of tobacco products during a surprise check they conducted here against violators of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA).
The checking drive was conducted primarily in areas where shops are located within 100 yards of schools. The joint team, which comprised EAC Atin Padung and DPO Dr K Gyadi, besides police personnel and DTCC staffers, also created awareness on various provisions of the COTPA.
Restaurants found not displaying the ‘no smoking’ sign, along with a person below 18 years of age who was found selling tobacco products, were challaned on the spot. (DIPRO)
