Contractor’s assn concerned over merger of NEEPCO

ITANAGAR, Oct 9: Expressing concern over the recent decision of the Government of India regarding merger and privatization of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), the Hoj-Yazali Ranganadi Project Affected Contractor’s Association (HYRPACA) has appealed to all the MPs, political parties, public leaders, intellectuals, NGOs and students’ bodies to raise voice against the move.
In a release on Wednesday, the association strongly requested the concerned MLAs of Sagalee and Yachuli to press hard “to convince and convey the sentiments of the local people of their areas to the state’s chief minister for reconsideration of decision taken by the GoI.”
“The NEEPCO provides 95 percent of its employment and contract work opportunities to the people of North East and to the project-affected families. The disinvestment or privatization of NEEPCO will snatch away all those rights, privileges and will hurt the sentiments of the indigenous people of the North East,” it added.
