Ekal Abhiyan targets establishing over 1000 schools in state

PASIGHAT, Nov 1: Under the Ekal Abhiyan, a target has been set to establish a total of 1,100 Ekal Vidyalayas in Arunachal.
This was informed during a state-level meeting of the Ekal Vidyalayas held here in East Siang district on Thursday to review the progress and activities of the Ekal Vidyalayas being run under the Ekal Abhiyan in the state.
The meeting was chaired by Katan Yomso, who spoke about various problems and challenges faced by the Ekal Vidyalaya teachers, as well as on remedies to the problems.
The abhiyan’s Northeast coordinator, Ramesh Limbo, said, “The education project covers preprimary education and aims at moral building of the children, besides development of health, rural development and environment in remote rural areas.”
He informed that the project was launched in Arunachal in 2015, and is presently running 399 schools, out of which 180 are in East Siang district alone.
“The Ekal Vidyalayas in the state are spreading in remote districts of Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Upper Siang, Siang, Dibang Valley and Changlang. The Friends of Tribal Society of Arunachal Pradesh, a non-profit organization, is supporting the project in the state. Besides, we also take help from some national agencies for running the project,” Limbo added.
