Trg on bamboo handicrafts underway

MAYU-II, Nov 5: A ‘Bamboo handicraft training in traditional basket making’ programme, supported by the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD), is underway at NGO AMYAA’s training centre here in Lower Dibang Valley district.
The training is focused on reviving the traditional use of locally-made household bamboo items by giving them modern designs and finishing touches for commercial purposes. The training also aims at discouraging the use of plastic.
NABARD District Development Manager (DDM) Nitya Mili, along with AMYAA secretary RK Paul Chawang, visited the training centre on Tuesday to take stock of the training, and interacted with the trainees.
The programme had been inaugurated on 4 November in the presence of the SBI chief manager, the NABARD DDM, and representatives from the district textile & handicrafts department.
