JAIRAMPUR, Nov 26: The 6th CM’s Sub-Veteran and Veteran State Badminton Tournament got underway here in Changlang district on Tuesday. As many as 130 shuttlers from 17 districts are participating in it.
Agriculture Minister Tage Taki, who declared the tournament open in the presence of local MLA Laisam Simai at the newly constructed multipurpose hall, advised the players to “play with sportsman’s spirit and positive aggression.”
Highlighting the importance of games and sports in life, he urged the players to use the platform to spread brotherhood and unity, apart from motivating younger players.
Simai, who is also the chairman of the organizing committee, said the tournament was “the dream of Changlang District Badminton Association.” He credited the success of the opening ceremony to the hardworking members of the association.
Stating that sports are becoming high-paying professions, he urged parents to encourage their wards in sports activities. He said “the scopes are plenty for talented and hardworking players.”
The final will be played on 28 November.
Later, Taki and Simai visited the KVK, the nucleus pig breeding farm, the centre of excellence of the horticulture department, and the recently declared rural tourism model village, Tikhak Taipi.
