Legal literacy prog for GBs underway

TAWANG, Dec 12: Gaon buras and gaon buris of Tawang and West Kameng districts are participating in a two-day ‘legal literacy-cum-training programme’ which got underway here on Thursday.
Organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), the programme, themed ‘Synergy between customary practices and formal laws’, is being conducted under the Access to Justice – North East and Jammu & Kashmir project.
In his inaugural address, APSLSA Member Secretary Budi Habung enumerated the importance of the judiciary, the functioning of the GB institution, the Assam Frontier Regulation Act, 1945, and other subjects.
Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok highlighted “the importance of peace and order in the society for better development,” and advised all institutions to work in coordination in this regard.
SP B Kamduk said, “The GB institution is a neutral institution and works as a mediator between the villagers and the administration.” He stressed on cooperation between the police and the administration in maintaining peace and order in the district.
Tawang District Legal Services Authority Secretary Damge Niri was also present at the inaugural function. (DIPRO)
