ITANAGAR, Jan 27: The Arunachal Indigenous Students’ Union on Monday said it has called off the 12-hour capital bandh it had earlier said it would impose on 28 January.
Addressing media persons at the press club here, the union’s president, Techi Talik, said, “The state government has given positive response to all our demands. Hence, we are calling off tomorrow’s 12 hours’ bandh call.”
The union has made a series of demands, including, but not limited to, deportation of Chakma and Hajong refugees from the state, renaming RGU as Arunachal University, renaming IG Park as Abotani Park, providing
three percent job reservation to APST artists, disbursing monthly stipend to the students, and including Arunachal history in the textbooks of Classes 3-9.
The union said it would resume its movement if its demands are not met within four months.
