Workshop on palliative care held at Seppa

SEPPA, Mar 4: In a bid to generate awareness about palliative needs, the Health Department in East Kameng district, in collaboration with the district administration organized a workshop on ‘palliative care’ with the theme ‘Compassionate Seppa’ here at the Kameng Hall on Wednesday.
‘Compassionate Seppa’, an initiative of ADC Pravimal Abhishek Polumatla, is a proposed community-based palliative care project for the entire East Kameng district.
Attending the programme as mentor, Dr Suresh Kumar, a member of the WHO Committee on NCDS and the Director of Institute of Palliative Medicine, elaborated in detail about the importance and ways and means of palliative care.
Sharing the achievements and experiences of ‘Compassionate Calicut’, Dr Kumar, while assuring to extend all possible help in rolling out of this initiative in this district, urged all stakeholders to create army of volunteers to carry forward and accomplish the objective of the initiative.
Appealing for implementation of the initiative through community-based movement, the ADC urged the Health department, all HoOs, NGOs and community-based organizations to work collectively for successful implementation of the programme.
He also urged all to make the district a role model of the state in implementation of the mission and suggested constitution of a committee involving all stakeholders for successful roll-out of the initiative.
Attending the workshop, EKSWCO chairman Dahey Sangno acted as interpreter and explained in detail about the palliative care. He, on behalf of EKSWCO, has also assured to support the initiative.
In order to create more volunteers, it was also decided to organize trainings for master trainers and volunteers alike.
DMO Dr Lalchand Darung, other government officers, and representatives of various NGOs were also present and assured to support the initiative. (DIPRO)
