Workshop on crystallography organized

ITANAGAR, Mar 6: A four-day workshop on crystallography, titled ‘Reintroducing crystal growth and design’, organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre (APSC), concluded at the innovation hub at IG Park here on Friday.
The workshop featured presentation of hands-on demonstration on “the crystallization process of atom or molecules,” the APSC informed in a release. It was aimed at teaching general chemistry concepts and general research techniques, “without ever having a student determine a crystal structure,” and at encouraging entrepreneurship through crystallography, it said.
Students from Holy Cross School, the Himalayan University, the NERIST, and other institutes participated in the workshop.
Addressing the valedictory function on Friday, Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology Director, CD Mungyak, commended the APSC “for organizing such a wonderful workshop for the students,” and said there is need to conduct such programmes “for igniting interest in the field of chemistry for future career.”
Dr Suprakash Roy, assistant professor at the science & humanities department of the West Bengal Technical Education & Training, taught the participants about “the crystal formation process on conventional method; introduction on liquid crystal and growth crystal nature identification; and collection process and crystal designing,” the APSC said.
