Scientific advisory committee meeting held

TAWANG, 12 Mar: Scientists from Dirang-(West Kameng)-based National Yak Research Centre (NRCY), heads of agriculture and allied departments, NGO representatives and farmers from different villages participated in a scientific advisory committee meeting chaired by Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok here on Friday.

KVK Head Dr AN Tripathi briefed about the themes and objectives of the meeting. Subject matter specialists from the Tawang KVK presented their 2020-21 annual action plan to be adopted during 2021-22.

The committee members resolved to take up more income generating activities for the welfare of the farming community of the district.

NRCY principal scientist Dr B Paul suggested adopting integrated farming in collaboration with the KVK and the agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and other departments.

The DC advised the KVK scientists to introduce new technologies in mushroom cultivation, sericulture, beekeeping, yak and mithun rearing, dairy farming, etc.

He advocated growing crop species like baby corn, saffron, blueberry, etc, and stressed on preservation of the local germplasm of crops like buckwheat, turnip, etc.
