PASIGHAT, 7 May: The East Siang district unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Doctors’ Association (APDA) has condemned the attack on doctors Tabu Muri (orthopaedic surgeon) and Nabam Jadav (surgical specialist) of the Samaritan Hormin Hospital, Naharlagun, by an angry group of attendants after a female patient succumbed to Covid-19 in the hospital recently.

The group also allegedly damaged the hospital’s properties.

Members of the East Siang APDA, led by Joint Director of Health Services (T&R) Dr D Raina, demanded immediate action against the offenders.

Stating that the violent attack on the doctors “is amounting to assault on whole medical fraternity,” the APDA unit urged the law enforcing authorities to book the offenders under the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Medical Service Personnel and Medical Service Institution (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act, 2019, and other relevant laws.

Meanwhile, the Paat Welfare Society (PWS) of Kamle district has strongly condemned the physical assault on Dr Muri, who is one of the PWS’ executive members.

“He is a sincere orthopaedic surgeon who is serving the poor people of Arunachal Pradesh with utmost care and sincerity,” the PWS stated in a release.

Expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, the society said that the “elderly and unfortunate patient succumbed not due to doctors’ fault while performing minor surgical procedure.”

Condemning the manhandling of the doctor, the PWS demanded that the assaulters be arrested and booked under relevant sections of the law.
