Review meeting on Covid-19 held

TAWANG, 27 May: Local MLA Tsering Tashi chaired a review meeting on the Covid-19 situation in Tawang district here on Thursday with the DC, the SP, the ZPC, the ZPMs of Tawang and Kyidphel, the Jang ADC, the DMO, the MS, representatives of NGOs, and bazaar secretaries.

The MLA commended the administration and the NGOs for their contributions during the containment period. He said that containment is “the right step at the right time to stop further spread of the virus in the district; otherwise the number of positive cases would have been much larger.”

Tashi also expressed support to the proposal of the panchayat leaders, the NGOs and the bazaar secretaries to extend the containment period, and appealed to everyone to strictly follow the SOPs issued by the government “even after taking the final vaccine.”

DC Sang Phuntsok spoke about the measures being taken during the containment period to stop further spread of the virus, and the ongoing door-to-door RATs being carried out in every village and circle of the district.

Medical Superintendent Dr N Namshum advocated extending the containment period, stating that “this time, more severe cases are coming up in the district, and it will take some more time to contain the virus, since many of the contacts may be under incubation period.”

All the participants at the meeting unanimously recommended extension of the containment period.

“The opinion of the house will be further submitted to the state government for approval,” said the DC. (DIPRO)
