Lockdown extension opposed

ITANAGAR, 29 May: All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has opposed the extension of the ongoing lockdown in the Itanagar capital region (ICR) for another week, saying that the lockdown has mostly affected the daily wage earners.

The association said “the government lacks a clear-cut policy that could benefit the daily wage earners, the part-time workers, students, and auto, taxi, Tempo and truck drivers who depend on daily-based work to meet their basic needs during the lockdown.”

Small businessmen and women and contractors are also suffering huge losses, it said.

The state government on Friday extended the ongoing lockdown, which was supposed to end on 31 May, until 7 June, in view of the unchanged Covid-19 situation.

Meanwhile, the ANYA appealed to the government to ensure administration of anti-Covid vaccine to all the citizens of the state at the earliest.
