METENGLIANG, 18 Jun: Forty farmers, farmwomen and rural youths benefitted from an awareness programme on balanced used of fertilizers, organized here by the Anjaw KVK on Friday.
While KVK Head (in-charge) Dr Santosh Kumar spoke about the importance of balanced use of fertilizers and manure in agriculture production, agronomy scientist Khoisnam Naveen apprised the participants of the importance of major and micro nutrients for healthy plants, and benefits of soil testing for evaluating the nutrients profile of soil for higher productivity and return.
Naveen also spoke on nutrient deficiency in plants and advised the participants to apply manure and vermicompost for healthy and sustainable soil.
The participants were also informed about the importance of fertigation and benefits of soil health card.
The scientist also delivered a talk on “water use efficiency and appropriate crops under hill condition.”
Dr Kumar spoke about quality of water to prevent waterborne diseases, and about “efficient water management for better productivity and body weight gain in livestock and poultry.”
At the end of the programme, elephant foot yam, yam, taro and medicines for prevention of foot-and-mouth disease were distributed to the farmers.
