RAGA, 14 Jul: Kamle Deputy Commissioner Adong Pertin on Wednesday reviewed the status of the material arrangements for the restoration of the Bailey bridge in Tamen.
The executive engineer of Ziro (Lower Subansiri)-based highway division informed that advance payment for materials have already been made and the materials are expected to reach Tamen by 20 July, along with engineers and technicians.
On 26 June, during a meeting with officers of the highway department, representatives of Kolkata (WB)-based M/s Bridge and Roof Company (India) Ltd (BRCIL), and local leaders in Tamen, the BRCIL was given six weeks for procuring
materials and restoring the Bailey bridge.
The DC meanwhile constituted a district level inquiry committee, headed by the Raga ADC, to inquire into the causes of the damages to the bridge.
As per the committee’s preliminary report, the bridge should have been designed for 40-45 tonnes capacity in the initial stage, taking into consideration the TAH construction works. It said that “crossing of an overloaded dumper truck over the bridge by the driver Pranob Jyoti Deori was the main cause of the damage to the Bailey suspension bridge.”
The DC directed the committee chairman to submit the full report at the earliest. (DIPRO)
