Orgs seek inclusion of Korang circle in E/Siang

ITANAGAR, 20 Jul: The Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) and the Adi Ba:ne Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) have served an ultimatum to the state government, demanding introduction of a new bill to amend the Arunachal Pradesh District Reorganization (Amendment) Act, 2013 “to restore Korang circle within East Siang district and to remove the status quo on Korang circle and continuation of Korang as an administrative circle of East Siang.”

The organizations cautioned the government that they would “intensify democratic movement” if the government fails to fulfil the two demands within 15 days. “In case of any eventuality, the government should be held responsible,” they said.

In a joint statement, the AdiSU and the ABKYW said, “We are deeply saddened by the lackadaisical attitude of the state government in addressing the Korang circle issue under East Siang district.”

The organizations lamented that the state government has been unable to address their issue, adding that they have been approaching the government since 2013 “to respect the sentiment of Adi traditional boundary while demarcating East Siang and Lower Siang districts.”
