KANUBARI, 15 Oct: The Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), led by its Head (in-charge) A Kirankumar Singh, celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas here on Friday with 96 farmwomen representing different SHGs of Kanubari and Lawnu circles.
During the programme, Singh said that most of the farm activities in the state are done by women, and advised them to continue to work to boost the production of different field crops, vegetables and fruits, “with the adoption of improved technologies transferred by the KVK,” in order to improve their livelihood.
Kanubari ADO Tumpi Lollen highlighted the importance of the day for women working in the agriculture and allied sectors.
Singh later distributed vegetable seeds to the participants.
In Papum Pare, the district’s KVK celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas at Langpar village in Sagalee with 21 farmwomen.
The KVK’s head spoke about “equity and empowerment of women, and the role and importance of mahila kisan in agriculture and allied activities in addition to their daily household activities.”
The KVK’s horticulture expert spoke on climate resilient agriculture and adoption of new technologies, while the plant protection scientist dwelt on “prevailing disease-related issues on bananas and vegetables” and distributed medicines and vitamins to the participants.
