ITANAGAR, 23 Feb: Days after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a comment that most of the boundary dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be solved within this year by initiating talks starting this April, the All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union said that it welcomes the statement.
AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai said, “It is a welcome statement by the chief minister of Assam that the inter-state boundary dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will be resolved under an atmosphere of brotherhood.”
Dai said, “Sarma’s statement has its own historical ramifications and the hope of the people has been enhanced. We expect that the work will be in a time bound manner. The interstate boundary dwellers need permanent peace.”
According to an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, all the 12 border-affected districts had submitted their reports in October last year. However, further action has been put on hold as the committee on the border dispute has decided that the boundary dispute should be ratified “based on satellite images instead of using the conventional land calculation method.”
A few of the districts have submitted the modified report.
The final report is expected to be submitted to the government after February this year.
