ITANAGAR, 24 Feb: Member of Parliament Tapir Gao said that all agencies are working to trace Tapor Pullom, who was allegedly abducted by the Chinese PLA from Monigong in Shi-Yomi district in 2015.
Pullom is believed to have been abducted when he was on a hunting mission.
Briefing media persons here on Thursday, Gao said that he recently met the family members of Pullom and assured them of all help.
“I have met the family members recently. Earlier, they had no idea how to pursue the matter. Only after Mirem Taron was released that they saw a ray of hope,” said Gao.
He informed that he has written to the prime minister, the defence minister, the home minister and the foreign affairs minister, seeking their intervention to ensure early release of Pullom.
“Defence Minister Rajnath Singh personally called me and assured me to look into it. Diplomatic ways to try to figure out exactly what happened to Pullom have started. All agencies are working together in this regard. Hopefully, soon we will find an answer and the family will know of his fate,” said the MP.
He also said that “this type of incident of people from both India and China getting arrested along the LAC by their respective armies will take place in the future too, as the border is not properly demarcated.”
“People from both sides go for hunting and collection of herbal plants along the LAC. I request the army to raise this issue during the flag meeting with the PLA. Such people should not be arrested and immediately released,” said Gao.
Meanwhile, the state’s home department has written to the deputy commissioners of West Siang and Shi-Yomi districts, seeking details of the incident and the efforts being made to trace Pullom.
