Drii Diig festival celebrated

RAGA, 3 Apr: Drii Diig, the agricultural festival to propitiate Drii Aane for a bumper harvest and to ward off evil spirits, was celebrated with traditional fervour in Baja village in Gepen circle of Kamle district.

Attending the festival, Raga MLA Tarin Dakpe called upon the younger generation to “protect, preserve and celebrate the festival.”

He also called upon the people of Gepen circle to join in the Drii Diig celebration and enhance its grandeur.

“Though culture and tradition are very important, education is a must for all,” he said, and urged all to strive to provide good education to their children, and to make the district drug-free.

Kamle DC Adong Pertin highlighted the importance of traditional festivals in the day-to-day life of tribal people, and advised the people of Baja to “preserve and celebrate the festival in a befitting manner, irrespective of religious belief.”

Chikom ZPM Deyom Gapak and APFC Chairman Talo Mugli also spoke.

Cultural displays, felicitation of achievers, and prize distribution to the winners of different events were the other attractions. (DIPRO)
