PALIN, 3 Apr: The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) here in Kra Daadi district is in a pathetic condition, becoming a cause of worry for the students, parents and teachers alike.

The school is currently housed in a temporary structure and the permanent infrastructure is coming up in Pagba in Kurung Kumey district.

The condition of the school is so bad that the teachers are worried for their own safety and also that of the students.

“The children’s dormitory is located near the road. The highway cutting is going on. Boulders fall near the school constantly. At night, when it rains constantly, we visit the hostel as we are worried for the safety of the students,” said the school’s Principal (in-charge) R Gopal.

He informed that students and teachers themselves recently joined hands to carry out minor repair work. “We changed CGI sheets as the rain was coming inside the school. The school also faces drinking water issue,” he added.

The principal further said that the infrastructure at the permanent site is getting readied. “We have been told that 60 percent of the work is completed, and we are eagerly waiting for the completion. But till the permanent infrastructure is ready, we appeal to the authorities to kindly look into the issues concerning the JNV,” the principal appealed.

As many as 146 students study at the JNV. “We take admission from Class 6 onwards. It is a secondary school. The students are mostly from Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts,” said the principal.

Meanwhile, a parent has appealed to the Kra Daadi district administration to intervene and extend some help.

“The condition of the school is too bad. Everyone, right from the district administration to the public, is aware of the situation. We expect the authorities to visit the school and at least offer some assistance,” said a parent.
