Rallies to be held in TCL region to protest frequent abductions

LONGDING, 26 May: The Wancho Council has said that it will take out a peaceful rally here on 30 May, from 9 am onwards, “in protest against the atrocities and series of abductions perpetrated by the NSCN (K-YA) in Wancho area in particular and the TCL region in general.”

In the last two months, several prominent public figures and innocent civilians have been abducted from Kamhua Noknu, Longphong, Luaksim and Pumao villages of Longding district. To make matters worse, another case of abduction took place on 20 May in New Kothung in Lazu circle of Tirap district.

The council has appealed to the village councils and authorities to invite all villagers to stay at their respective villages on the day of the rally and bring 30 persons each from every village to the rally.

Meanwhile, the Tirap, Changlang, Longding People’s Forum has extended support to the rally called for by the Wancho Council, and appealed to all community-based organisations, student bodies, youths, women’s organisations, members of bazaar committees, GBs and panchayat members of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts to “stand against the abductions and atrocities committed by NSCN (K-YA) by organising peaceful rallies in all circle HQs and villages of TCL region.”

It also urged the Tangsa, Nocte, Singpho, Tutsa and Yobin communities to extend support by participating in the rally.
