ITANAGAR, 10 Jun: The state unit of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has sought establishment of vending zones with parking facilities in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
In a letter to the urban development secretary, the BMS on Friday said that such vending zones should be established in between Naharlagun and Nirjuli, in between Nirjuli and Karsingsa, and in between Karsingsa and Banderdewa.
“As per the Street Vendors Act-2014, every town or city of the country should have proper vending zones, and any project like highways and smart cities should have a provision for proper vending zones,” it said.
“But the ICR district administration is continuously evicting poor vendors, instead of providing vending zones in the ICR. Due to the eviction activities, the poor vendors are victimised and they will not be able to repay the loans they availed under the Prime Minister Street Vendor Atmanirbhar Nidhi Yojana,
which was launched due to Covid-19 to improve the poor vendors’ livelihoods,” the BMS said.
It urged the secretary to “take appropriate initiative for a permanent solution in favour of the poor vendors and hawkers, as per the Street Vendors Act-2014.”
