ITANAGAR, 12 Jun: A man in his late 40s, identified as Charu Tanu, was allegedly killed by his wife’s relatives on Saturday morning in Tigdo, near Yupia here.
Sources in the police department informed that deceased Tanu, who hailed from Korayer village in Chambang circle of Kra Daadi district, was allegedly assaulted by his wife’s relatives. He was brought unconscious to the TRIHMS in Naharlagun, where the doctors declared him dead.
“Two persons have been arrested so far in this connection for interrogation. At this stage, we can’t divulge much,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
“A murder case has been registered at the Doimukh police station. The matter is under investigation,” he informed.
The police sources added that the incident occurred after Tanu allegedly assaulted his wife, Likha Yakam, with a dao, inflicting serious injuries on her, on 10 June. Tanu was reportedly absconding after attacking his wife. However, the wife’s angry relatives later nabbed him and lynched him, the police added.
Yakam has been evacuated to Guwahati (Assam) for further treatment, and her condition is stated to be critical.
