PPA seeks restoration, maintenance of roads

ITANAGAR, 24 Jun: Expressing concern over the condition of the roads in the Itanagar Capital Region – from Papu Nallah to Nirjuli in particular – the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) on Friday appealed to the chief minister, who is also the PWD minister, to “physically inspect the site, initiate urgent maintenance works and restore the roads to motorable status.”

In a press release, the party said that “utter carelessness and absolutely bereft of any maintenance of capital road shows the state government’s apathy and criminal negligence towards the roads in the state,” adding that “the huge traffic jams lasting for hours together are the immediate result of huge potholes and swampy lakes in the middle of the road right from Papu Nallah to Nirjuli.”

Stating that “there are hundreds of organisations and they are quiet on this most important issue,” the PPA said that “it is the silence and inactivity of the so-called good people that destroyed the society, rather than the activity of the rascals.”

“A common popular voice against bad roads and poor governance is the need of the hour,” the party added.
