Lives lost, properties damaged in Balijan

HOLLONGI, 28 Jun: Loss of human lives and damages to properties due to a flashflood triggered by heavy downpour were reported from Balijan circle of Papum Pare district on Tuesday.

The Papum Pare DIPRO reported that, as per reports received from District Disaster Management Officer Nima Tashi, four persons reportedly drowned at Huto village due to heavy flood in the Hollongi river and five injured persons were rescued by villagers and taken to the TRIHMS for treatment.

The NDRF and the SDRF are carrying out a search operation to retrieve the bodies. “Out of four persons, two persons were retrieved, one died, and other one was rescued alive after receiving first aid, same was referred to TRIHMS for further treatment,” said the DIPRO.

Similar incidents occurred in Kokila village in Balijan circle, “where 10 people came under landslides, nine persons miraculously escaped, but one person was buried under landslides and later on dead body was also retrieved by search team from landslide debris at Kokila water treatment plant,” the DIPRO said, adding that “there was also report of another incident wherein five persons were injured.”

The DIPRO said that four houses were damaged in Kokila village and two houses were damaged in Huto village.

The district administration has already issued orders from time to time, advising people residing in vulnerable areas to move to safer places or designated relief camps, the DIPRO added.
