ITANAGAR, 13 Aug: A team of the Galo Language Development Committee (GLDC), comprising its member secretary Yaadam Loyi and members Dr Bomchak Riba and Pugi Kambu, completed a weeklong national level workshop on ‘Compilation of folksongs and rhymes in Manipuri, Thadou-Kuki, Rungmei Tangkhul, Adi and Galo languages of Northeast India’ at the Northeast Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) in Umiam, Meghalaya, from 8 to 12 August.
The NERIE caters to the educational needs of the eight states of the Northeast.
The workshop was aimed at promoting preservation, protection and promotion of tribal languages, culture, customs, folktales, folksongs and rhymes of Northeast India, which is to be incorporated in third language textbooks in the future.
