1 arrested in suspected murder case

NAMSAI, 18 Aug: The Namsai police have arrested one person in connection with a suspected murder that took place here on 8 August.

Namsai SP DW Thongon informed that, on 8 August, information was received at the police station, stating that one Nalasing Chautang had died, “and accordingly a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of the CrPC was registered.”

The SP informed that postmortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the relatives for the last rites. However, the result of the postmortem is still awaited.

The arrest of the person on Thursday was based on eyewitness account that the deceased had been in a scuffle with three persons, including the arrestee.

The SP also informed that, “as per the doctor, there is no identification of any incremental wounds. However, there were marks of bruises on the back of the body, which were three to four days old.”

A team of police from Namsai has left for Dibrugarh (Assam), looking for one Deepa Baruah and her son Biswajeet Baruah, who were also there at the time of the scuffle.

The police have added a fresh section (302/34) of the IPC to the case.

Earlier, a protest march was taken out in Namsai, seeking justice for the deceased.
