BILAT, 5 Oct: The 20th edition of Odam Ering Memorial Football Trophy got underway at Bilat playground in East Siang district on Monday last.
Late Odam Ering is the mother of Pasighat-West MLA and former union minister Ninong Ering. The MLA’s family usually sponsored the intra-district football tournament in memory of their late mother. However, this time, the tournament is being sponsored by state’s deputy chief minister Chowna Mein and conducted by the District Football Association (DFA) of East Siang in collaboration with Bilat Bamin Football Association (BBFA).
In the opening match, Mikong team beat Bilat Veteran 4-1.
Sigar and Borguly teams of Mebo have entered into next round by beating Remi and Tekang teams on the second day of the tournament.
According to organizers, a total 34 teams of the district are participating in the tournament this year.
The champion team of the tournament will be awarded Rs 50,000 along with a trophy, while the runner-up will get Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
The final game of the tournament is fixed on October 25 next.
Earlier, inaugurating the tournament, East Siang DC Tayi Taggu urged the players to maintain discipline and sense of brotherhood throughout game.
MLA Ninong Ering, Bilat block ZPM Yaken Jerang, DFA officials and local gaon burahs and villagers were present in the inaugural function.
