ITANAGAR, 12 Mar: Three hundred participants, including faculties’ members and students, participated in an international seminar titled ‘Climate change, resilience and sustainability connecting Arctic with Third Pole’, organised by the anthropology department of Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC) here on Tuesday.
Addressing the participants, Dr Kamrul Hossain from the University of Lapland (Finland) expressed grave concern over climate change and the Third Pole (which includes the Himalayan region and eight Asian countries where indigenous communities and tribes are adjusting to the changing climate), and noted that “the variability in the climate is caused by human activities.”
Kolkata (WB)-based Mrinali Datta Mahavidyapith Birati’s Anthropology Department Associate Professor Dr Suman Chakraborty dwelt on “the effects of the global climate, citing the rise in temperature in a few districts of Arunachal Pradesh,” DNGC informed in a release.
Rono Hills-based Rajiv Gandhi University’s Social Science Dean Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhury said that, “in order to address the growing concern over climate change, there is an urgent need for bridging interdisciplinary boundaries.”
DNGC Principal Dr MQ Khan and Anthropology HoD Dr Ratna Tayeng also spoke, it said.
