Editor,
Every day, individuals from across the state and other states send commodities into the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) and out of the ICR to different parts of the state. However, due to unregulated deals with Sumo (taxi) and bus drivers/conductors (both government and private), people are forced to pay according to the drivers’ whims and fancies, with charges starting at Rs 100 at the lowest (as of this date) by pleading with them even after paying them money.
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to the possibility of launching a courier service by the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS), which is currently operating mostly vacant or half-occupied, as people prefer more convenient and time-saving modes of transportation for travelling to distant regions.
The state government might generate a significant amount of revenue by implementing courier services for parcels such as food, commodities, and other miscellaneous items. The government could also regulate and check unscrupulous ways of parcelling items, providing relief and a sense of security to the public, particularly those living in the state’s rural and interior areas while sending mostly edible items to their kith and kin in the ICR, which is known for its hyperinflation.
