Editor,

I wish to strongly draw the attention of the chairman and the secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to the recent notification on 18 September 2025 regarding the Arunachal Engineering Services (Mains) Examination.

The commission, in the same notification, added more than 300 new candidates in the zone of consideration and simultaneously fixed the mains examination on 28 September. This decision, allowing barely 10 days for the newly included candidates to prepare, is hasty, arbitrary, and unbecoming of an institution that is expected to act with fairness and responsibility. Such a move inevitably invites protests and legal intervention, thereby disturbing the entire process once again.

It is common sense that at least one month’s gap must be provided between the declaration of results and the conduct of the mains. By ignoring this basic standard, the commission has not only created confusion but also inflicted undue stress on the aspirants. Those of us who were included in the first list already suffered immensely when the exam was abruptly postponed just one day before the scheduled date earlier. Repeating the same cycle of uncertainty and indecision amounts to mental harassment, and is taking a heavy toll on the health of the candidates.

We demand that the commission clarify immediately whether the exam will be held on 28 September or postponed, and if postponed, let it be the final and conclusive decision. Last-minute changes are unacceptable and irresponsible, and may one day lead to tragic consequences.

The commission must rise to the occasion and act with accountability. If newly added candidates deserve more time, grant it now with a firm, final schedule, so that all aspirants, old and new, may prepare without confusion. The credibility of the commission is at stake, and repeated indecisiveness is eroding the trust of the people. The APPSC must remember that it is dealing with the future of hundreds of youths, not experimenting with dates.
